Yes, boxing works for weight loss — our members lose 8–15kg in their first six months regularly. But not for the reason the Instagram posts tell you.
The burn is real but it's not the point
A group class burns 600–750 calories. BoxFit pushes past 700. That's solid — but three bakery muffins erase it in four minutes. If boxing 'worked' only by burning calories, most people would still fail.
Why it actually works
Three reasons, all behavioural:
- You keep coming back. Adherence beats intensity. A 'perfect' program you quit loses to a good one you do for a year.
- You build muscle that eats at rest. Bag work and S&C add lean mass — that raises your baseline burn permanently.
- You start eating like someone who trains. Nobody wants to feel a sausage roll at round four. Members clean up their eating without being told.
What to eat around sessions
Keep it simple: carbs 90 minutes before training (banana, toast, oats), protein within an hour after. Don't train hard on an empty stomach and don't reward a 700-calorie session with a 1,200-calorie dinner.
Weight loss is the most common goal we hear — and the most commonly achieved. Start with a free trial, then pick a class schedule you'll actually keep.
