What kids actually learn here

Jesse Ngata runs the junior program, and his rule is simple: fun first, discipline through the fun. Kids learn stance, footwork and the basic punches through games and partner pad work — the same fundamentals adults learn, translated for shorter attention spans.

The side effects parents notice at home: listening the first time, better coordination, a kid who isn't scared of the ball at school. Boxing gives children a controlled outlet for energy that usually gets them in trouble.

Under-10s are strictly non-contact. From 10 they can try light, supervised partner drills — always with headgear, always optional, always Jesse's call.

How it runs

How junior classes run

Forty-five minutes of structured chaos — here's the shape of every session.

Juniors lined up for a footwork drill with cones
Line-up & warm-up game

Kids can't warm up formally — so we play a game that does it without them noticing.

Skill of the day

One thing taught properly: the jab, a slip, a footwork pattern. Short demo, everyone copies.

Pad & bag rotation

Pairs rotate through pad stations and the junior bags. This is where they actually hit things — safely.

Coordination circuit

Agility ladders, cones, reaction balls — the stuff that makes them better at every other sport too.

Cool down & high fives

Two minutes of stretching, a word from Jesse, and the loudest group high-five in Brisbane.

Questions

Parent questions

Under-10s never make contact with each other — it's pads, bags and coordination games. Statistically safer than a weekend of junior footy.

Shy kids do brilliantly here — the structure is predictable, Jesse is gentle, and there's no being-picked-for-teams awkwardness. Watch the first class from the mezzanine if it helps.

Nothing to start — we supply junior gloves and wraps. Term members usually grab their own gloves ($55 junior size) because kids like owning gear.

Around 13, or earlier if Jesse judges them ready technically and emotionally. The teens program picks up where juniors leave off.

Yes — holiday boxing camps each break, half-day format, $55 per kid. Details go out to parents a month before each school break.
