The gym behind
the gloves
Nine years, one rented scout hall, two rings and 420 members later — this is who Boxing Trap Studio actually is.
Started with six bags and a borrowed ring
In 2016 I was coaching out of a scout hall in Rochedale — six second-hand bags, a ring I'd borrowed off a mate, and eight members who showed up out of loyalty more than belief.
The idea was simple and hasn't changed: teach boxing the way boxing coaches teach it. Footwork before power. Defence before offence. Nobody left flailing on a bag while the instructor scrolls their phone.
We signed the lease on State Route 95 in 2018. The Eight Mile Plains spot gave us room for two rings, a weights bay and a kids' mat area — and the southside community did the rest.

2016: the whole gym fit in one photo. Those bags are still on the floor.
Nine years, four turning points
The hall years
Eight members, six bags, one borrowed ring. Word spread because the coaching was real — by year two we had a waiting list.
The State Route 95 gym
Signed the lease, painted everything twice, installed two proper rings. Membership tripled in the first six months.
Golden Gloves season
Three of our fighters took Queensland novice titles the same year. The trophy shelf by reception is from that run.
Kids' wing & weights bay
Knocked through to the next unit for a dedicated juniors area and a full strength room. 420 members and counting.
What we believe in this gym
"Boxing isn't about hurting people. It's about becoming someone who can't be hurt by much."
A sloppy punch is a wasted rep. We'd rather you throw ten good ones than a hundred bad ones.
Partners rotate every round. The newest member gets the same pad work as the fight team.
Defence before offence, controlled contact only, and respect inside the ropes is non-negotiable.
You don't need to be fit to start. You'll get fit learning something that actually matters.
Four coaches, zero clipboard holders

Marcus Delaney
34 amateur bouts. Runs fundamentals and the fight team. If your jab is lazy, you'll hear about it — kindly, but repeatedly.

Dana Whitfield
Ex-track sprinter turned S&C coach. Builds the engine under every fighter — ask her about hill sprints at your own risk.

Jesse Ngata
Runs every junior session. Twelve amateur bouts, endless patience, and a whistle the kids genuinely respect.

Tony Marchetti
Old-school technician, 20 years in gyms across Brisbane. Runs the lunchtime classes and our beginner shadow program.
What the work produced
We're prouder of the 400 people who got fit than the 38 who fought — but the wall of wraps by ring one tells its own story.
